Prospective Graduate Students
Thank you for your interest
in graduate education at the Department of
Chemistry, University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Our graduate programs
(Ph.D., M.S. and M.S. - Biochemistry) offer exceptional research
opportunities for advanced training in a wide variety of
chemistry-related disciplines including Organic, Physical, Analytical,
Computational, Materials, Biochemistry and Chemical Education. The
graduate student to faculty ratio in the department is nearly
one-to-one. Consequently, our diverse student body receives a high level of
individualized interaction with excellent faculty through customized
research projects, specialized course work, professional development and graduate seminars. In
addition, many of our research programs offer exciting
interdisciplinary collaborations with local scientists, as well as with
scientists nationally and internationally. |

Deadlines (for both domestic and international students):

February 1st
: Standard Admissions Deadline
Applications for fall admission that are completed by the February 1st
deadline (domestic and international) will be given priority for state-funded
graduate assistantships. Individuals interested in pursuing
graduate education in chemistry are strongly encouraged to identify a
faculty mentor prior to being accepted into the program.
Applicants should review the chemistry faculty web pages
and contact faculty members directly about research opportunities in
their groups. |

October 1st
: Alternate Admissions Deadline
Graduate applications for spring admission must be completed by the
October 1st deadline (domestic and international). Students seeking admission
during the spring semester are typically not
considered for state-funded graduate assistantships. The awarding
of state support is a competitive process that is relegated to the
February 1st admissions schedule. |

of Chemistry Application Requirements
- Copy of transcript(s) (upload these into AY if you have not already done so to meet the UNLV Graduate College requirements)
- Statement of interest (upload into AY a 1-2 page essay describing specific areas of interest, reasons for pursuing the degree, and goals after completing graduate studies)
- GRE General Test scores (have the official results sent to the UNLV Department of Chemistry, CODE 4861)
- E-mail addresses for individuals who will be providing letters of recommendation (enter the addresses into AY; the Ph.D. program requires 3 letters, and the M.S. program requires 2 letters)
- TOEFL
(International Students only CODE 4861)
- Submit Financial Certification form and Bank Letter to Office of International Students and Scholars.
- Submission of a curriculum vitae and/or resume are strongly encouraged
Ph.D. Students:
- Applicants seeking a Ph.D. must have a minimum grade
point average of 3.00 on a 4.0 scale.
- Admission to the Chemistry Ph.D. program requires a
B.S. degree
or an M.S. degree in Biochemistry, Chemistry, or a related discipline.
Masters Students:
- Admission to the Chemistry or Biochemistry Masters
program requires an undergraduate degree in chemistry, biochemistry,
biology, or a related discipline.
- Applicants seeking an M.S. must have a cumulative GPA of 2.75 (or 3.00 for the last two years of undergraduate work).
