McCarran International Airport

McCarran International Airport is the main airport serving Las Vegas and Clark County. It is close to both UNLV and the Strip. McCarran Airport is ranked among the 10 busiest airports in the world based on the amount of passenger activity, serving over 60 air carriers. McCarran Airport averages as many as 840 flights a day and offers direct flights to over 60 U.S. cities.

Many Las Vegas hotels and casinos offer free shuttle service to and from the airport. The I-215 freeway is south of the airport and has a freeway connector that leads northbound from the I-215 through a tunnel to the airport entrance and southbound away from the airport through a tunnel to the I-215. Most conference participants will need to enter and leave the airport traveling the opposite directions as that just described, as UNLV lies less than 1 mile north of the airport. Between the airport and UNLV, Swenson Street is a one-way northbound street with traffic moving away from the airport to UNLV, and Paradise Road is a one-way southbound street with traffic traveling to the airport entrance. The conference hotel, AmeriSuites, sits between (and adjacent to both) Swenson Street and Paradise Road, off of Harmon Avenue and across from UNLV. Both Swenson Street and Paradise Road handle two-way traffic north of Harmon Avenue.

The McCarran Airport website includes: terminal information, airline & flight info, transporation/parking, welcome to Las Vegas, etc. Terminal information includes: maps showing the entrances to the airport, terminal maps, maps for ticketing and baggage claim, etc. Welcome to Las Vegas includes: community links, travel tip links, hotel & convention links, entertainment links, etc.

The web site Las Vegas Transportation includes links for: McCarran International Airport, Car Rental Companies, Taxi Companies, Limousine Companies, Charter Bus Companies, Public Transportation (Bus), and Strip & Downtown Shuttles.

Terminal 1 is the main terminal of McCarran and includes the A,B,C,D Gates. Automated transit systems connect the C and D Gates to Terminal 1, and one can walk within Terminal 1 to Gates A, B, and C (not D). Terminal 2 lies north of Terminal 1 and is relatively small. It handles International and Charter flights, and U.S. Customs Service and U.S. Immigration are located at the south end of this terminal. Inter-terminal Shuttle Service is available, though the terminals are within walking distance of one another. The driving distance from AmeriSuites to Terminal 1 is 1.5 miles.

Below are some maps which may be of help:

  1. The Strip Hotels Map.

The Strip Hotels Map includes UNLV, McCarran International Airport (at bottom of map), nearby hotels/casinos, the I-15 freeway (in green), and major nearby roads. McCarran Internation Airport is also listed at the bottom of the map. The map lists places north of McCarran and so does not list the I-215 freeway which is south of McCarran. The map incorrectly reports that the already opened (new) Aladdin is opening soon.

  2. UNLV Campus Map.

The UNLV Campus Map includes a map of the campus and adjacent major streets. The conference is being held in the A building of the Classroom Building Complex. The Classroom Building Complex is labeled #55 on the map and consists of three adjacent buildings. The A building is the round one.

  3. Las Vegas and Surrounding Area.

The Outlying Area Map includes Las Vegas and the surrounding area. It also does not list the I-215 freeway.
