The Conference Hotel Site: AmeriSuites

AmeriSuites is the official Hotel Site for the conference. We strongly encourage conference participants to make their reservations early, as we have secured an excellent price of $69 per night through the early cut off date of April 16. The same rooms are typically priced at a higher rate (as an extreme example, they went for over $200 per night during the April 2001 AMS/UNLV meeting). ASL members reserving their rooms after April 16, may or may not get the special ASL rate of $69 depending on their availability. ASL members should identify themselves using the Group Code "ASL" to reserve their room at the discounted rate.

AmeriSuites is located across Swensen Street from UNLV, across from the Hard Rock Casino, and is close to both McCarran Internation Airport and the Strip (Las Vegas Blvd.). AmeriSuites is .7 miles from the meeting site (the Classroom Building Complex). AmeriSuites is adjacent to Swensen Street, Paradise Road, and Harmon Avenue. South on Swensen Avenue leads to the airport entrance, north on Paradise Road leads away from the airport, east on Harmon Avenue leads into UNLV towards the conference site, and west on Harmon Avenue leads to the Strip. The driving distance from AmeriSuites to Terminal 1 of McCarran International Airport is 1.5 miles. Traveling on Harmon Avenue, AmeriSuites and UNLV are respectively 1.2 and 1.3 miles from the Strip (i.e. the corner of Las Vegas Blvd. and Harmon Avenue).

AmeriSuites has shuttles to the airport and also to the Aladdin Casino (located near the corner of Las Vegas Blvd. and Harmon Avenue), from which one can go to many of the other major strip casinos. AmeriSuites has nice suites with regrigerator, microwave, wet bar, coffee maker with coffee, limited dishes and utensils, and includes complimentary breakfast, dataport telephone, USA today, etc. The web site AmeriSuites provides more information about their suites and the hotel.

To walk from AmeriSuites to the conference site, first walk east along Harmon Avenue into the UNLV campus. At the end of Harmon Avenue is the Lied Library (which appears on the conference poster). Upon reaching the front of the Lied Library and the end of Harmon Avenue, turn right so that you may walk south. The Classroom Building Complex is the next structure (immediately south of the Lied Library). The Classroom Building Complex consists of three buildings and is the meeting site.

See the Strip Hotels Map, noting that Las Vegas Blvd. is less than 2 miles from UNLV and that the meeting site is at UNLV between Tropicana and Harmon Avenues. This map is clearly a few years old, as it lists the already opened (new) Aladdin Casino as opening soon and it lists Terrible's Casino as Continental.

1. Howard Johnson Airport Inn is located between the airport and UNLV, less than one-half mile from each. It is approximately .7 mile to the meeting site and is one of the hotels used during 1999 and 2001 for AMS meetings held at UNLV. Possibly one can hear traffic. 2. Motel 6 Tropicana is located on Tropicana between UNLV and major casinos on the strip (i.e. Las Vegas Blvd.), making both within walking distance. (About one-half mile from UNLV and one-fifth mile from the strip.) Besides major casinos being nearby, a restaurant is adjacent to this Motel 6. Our understanding is that there are no block purchases of rooms and no shuttle service to-and-from the airport, though maybe one can take advantage of shuttles at the adjacent casinos.
