Shirley Shen, UNLV Genomics Core Facility flow cytometry technician, analyzes multicolor data generated from mouse lung cells labeled with CD markers CD11c and CD45R processed using the BD FACSCalibur flow cytometer.
The Fluidics Station 450, which is a component of the Affymetrix GeneChip instrument system. The Affymetrix GeneChip instrument system is used to hybridize, wash, stain, scan and analyze Affymetrix microarrays, including gene and exon expression, SNP, tiling and miRNA GeneChip microarrays.
Ron Gary, UNLV Genomics Core lab director analyzes the integrity of RNA samples using the Agilent 2100 Bioanalyzer. The RNA samples were extracted from cultured human glioblastoma cell line A-172 and after RNA integrity analysis, the RNA was used as starting material to run Affymetrix 1.0 ST gene expression microarrays.
A close up view of the Omnigrid 100 microarrayer. The Omnigrid 100 is a fully automated high capacity microarrayer that functions to print DNA samples onto solid substrates such as glass slides. The custom DNA spotted slides can then be used to perform microarray studies.
Casey Hall-Wheeler, UNLV Genomics Core manager positions a Western blot onto the glass platen of the Typhoon 9410 variable mode imager to scan and detect fluorescent labeled proteins. The Typhoon can scan and detect nucleic acids and proteins labeled with single or multiple fluorescent, phosphorescent or chemiluminescent probes.
The Bio-Rad iQ iCycler is a real-time PCR detection system that can multiplex four different fluorophores in a single tube. Software functions include melt curve analysis, allelic discrimination and programmable qPCR temperature gradient.

If you are a researcher, private company, or organization studying the functions of genes and their products, our facility is here to help.

The UNLV Genomics Core Facility provides a full range of structural and functional genomics services to investigators in Nevada and beyond. The state-of-the-art facility provides a wide range of genomics instrumentation and offers training for the use of equipment. Staff may also be contracted to perform selected services.
