Return to Academics
I chose to attend UNLV motivated by the desire to leave a career in industry and return to an academic setting that supports pure geologic research. I determined the type of research I wanted to pursue long before considering UNLV as the home for my Ph.D research. After meeting with faculty from UNLV's department of geoscience, I was confident that UNLV would provide an excellent environment for me to continue my education and research.

A Better Educator
One of the most significant contributions to my personal growth while at UNLV has been the expansion of my skills as an educator. Most surprising to me is the faculty encouragement and support for students to apply for research grants that will fund the student's own research. Successful funding of research through grants is an integral part of academia and this experience will better prepare me for a career in higher education.
