Well-rounded Education
I want to focus my education on volcanology and when I was looking for a place to do a master's level work, I found the UNLV faculty very responsive and open to my inquiry. Also, the geoscience department faculty expects your studies to be well-rounded with your research encompassing all areas of science. For example, I did not pursue research in one area, but my efforts included field work, and studies in structural geology and geochronology (with a geochemistry project).

A Variety of Labs
UNLV's geoscience department has several different labs, allowing you to complete several different analyses and the department works to ensure you can complete your research using these labs, even if you lack the funding to pay for such expensive analyses.

Outside the Classroom
I really like living in Las Vegas. I love the climate and the city is within a day's drive to several great sites, including southern California, the Grand Canyon, and southern Utah.

After graduating from UNLV, I plan to complete a Ph.D. in geology, focusing on volcanology. I would like to conduct research on active volcanic systems, either through a professional position or a professorship at a university.

The College of Sciences offers research opportunities, including laboratory experience working side-by-side with professors.
